We sort of agreed not to celebrate valentines day thinking we are a bit too cool for all that commercialised hype however when the day actually came around and I realised that I’d infact have to spend Valentines evening abroad working, my sentimental side kinda kicked in. So, on the premise of asking Jon whether he wanted to come and help me do some chores at lunchtime (we work near each other) we fought our way through the rainy, windy streets of Fitzrovia. Keen to find somewhere quickly and get inside my eye landed on Salt Yard.
We had Tapas perching at the bar:
Grilled Underblade Fillet of Beef, Artichokes, Black Olive and Piquillo Salsa
Truffled Macaroni Cheese
Patatas Fritas with Romesco Sauce and Alioli
I didn’t get a photo of the truffle mac cheese because I was so excited about seeing the truffle, to be honest I just went straight for it and it wasnt until a couple of spoonfuls later that i remembered that Im supposed to take a photo of it, sorry about that. Especially since for me that was the star of our order. That dish was so delicious, I think Ill go back to the restaurant and maybe just order 2 or 3 of these one day.
In any case, overall comments are that I can totally see why this place was featured in Masterchef recently, food quality was excellent and dishes were interesting and tasty. Should mention however that service was a little slow but the place was really busy and popular.
Jon rightly mentions that presentation varies dramatically between dishes i.e. I didn’t even take a photo of the tortia as didn’t think it would translate too well.
